Press Releases and its impact on SEO
Posted at 12-September-2008 10:36:44 AM
As search engines continue to roll out newer filters and algorithms to fine tune the search results, SEO experts have been working incessantly to find newer techniques that enable them to stay one step ahead of the search engines. Many new on page and off-page SEO strategies have been created in the last few months. The newest addition is creating press releases.

Press Release

A press release is an announcement of any newsworthy item, in this case, the launch of your website, to the press and the media. While press releases were strictly considered to be a marketing strategy for the offline world, now it is an equally important aspect of just about any SEO campaign. But how can a press release be used for SEO? Now that is a very legitimate question.

 How it works

The first step in using a press release for SEO is to create an optimized press release that is rich with targeted keywords. You have to be careful to avoid over optimization though. The press release should highlight the unique selling points of your websites in a very subtle way.  Then you need to submit the press release to press release directories. These online directories only list press releases and are scanned regularly by search engines. So depending on the keywords that you use, an anchor text will be created which will link to your website. Now this link works as a one way link to your website and this in itself is very important for link building. If you submit your press release to more than one directory, then it means that you have that many quality links pointing towards your website. This means more targeted traffic which is the ultimate goal of every SEO campaign.

  Choosing a directory

You need to be choosy when selecting a press release directory. There are some who offer free submissions while others require you to subscribe to their services.
